What does the B certificate exam look like?
The WRM exam B consists of giving a practical lesson to a real driving licence student.
What does the practical lesson consist of?
After a brief preliminary interview, an IBKI assessor observes a driving lesson given by you to a real driving licence student who is being trained for the CBR practical exam. The assessor fills in an assessment protocol about your performance. This results in a verdict sufficient or insufficient. In a follow-up interview, he will give you this result and give you feedback on the insufficiently assessed assessment criteria.
What should be the content of the lesson?
Length/content of lesson and student level
- You must give one driving lesson of a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 80 minutes. The lesson must cover both instructional and coaching skills.
- The lesson must have a subject from the original instruction progress card of your real student. This student should not be so far advanced in his driver training that he is already fully ready for the driving licence exam. There must be at least 5 lesson items left at your real student’s actual level that have not been dealt with previously in terms of content.
- Your choice of the lesson subject must match your student’s actual starting level and instruction progress card. You have determined this starting level at the beginning of the lesson.
- If you determine the actual starting level of the student correctly and deal with it didactically, you can simply teach the lesson you had planned to teach. It can also happen that you decide to first bring the required starting level up to standard before continuing with the planned lesson.
- Only if the actual starting behaviour shows that the student is not up to the subject or is much further advanced in terms of level than the planned subject and you do not respond well to this, will the examiner propose a different lesson subject in a binding way. This always happens after the student has driven a piece(s) and never during the introductory conversation.
- It is therefore not the case that the examiner determines the lesson subject in the introductory conversation on the basis of a list of lesson topics. The examiner also does not give any assignments about the content of the lesson during the practical lesson assessment.
N.B. Determining the correct starting level of the student and adjusting the lesson subject accordingly, is part of the daily practice of a driving instructor. No extra preparation time is given.
The exams driving instructor only take place in Dutch, it is important that you have a sufficient control of the Dutch language.
How can I prepare myself?
There are WRM training schools that offer (short) preparation courses for practical guidance.
On the examination day, candidates must present the IBKI invitation to the examination board before the start of the examination and identify themselves with a valid driving licence. Please make sure you are present 15 minutes before the start of the exam.
In addition to a valid Dutch driving licence, the following are also being accepted as a valid driving licence:
- valid foreign driving licences issued in one of the countries of the European Union or in Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway (EU/EEA), up to 10 (ten) years after the date of issue. If this licence is already more than 9 (nine) years old at the time of establishment in the Netherlands, the holder is allowed to drive with it for another year.
- valid foreign driving licences issued in a country other than the EU/EEA, or in the Netherlands Antilles or Aruba, up to 185 (one hundred and eighty-five) days after establishment in the Netherlands.
If you still have questions about this prior to the exam, you can ask them by e-mail at info@ibki.nl or by telephone at 030-6087766, option 2.
